Sharing your point of view with your Members of Congress is an important part of our democracy – it’s their job to represent you and they want to hear from you! There are so many important issues at stake: Today a misinterpretation of the Clean Air Act threatens the future of racing and much more. We encourage all race fans, and industry entrepreneurs to support the passage of the RPM Act.
Today our main federal legislative priority is passing the RPM Act. In order for that to happen, it has to be reintroduced. Groups are working on that. We need to keep the issue top of mind.. As Stand and Cheer transitions from an aligned advocacy group to a full 501c4 in the upcoming weeks, it's important for our current group to stay engaged. We ask you to reach out on an individual basis, until we move to the next phase. Tell your representative that you support the RPM Act and that they should as well. It's important to your community – their district or state.
Tell your Members of Congress what it means to our community, from your perspective. Your Members of Congress need to hear directly from their constituents on how this law will make a huge difference.
1. Pick up the Phone: The easiest way to tell your Members of Congress how you feel about an issue, or ask their support or opposition for a bill, is to call their office. In this case support for the RPM Act.
2. Request a Meeting: In-person meetings are a very effective way to educate elected officials and/or their staff about Stand and Cheer and current issues. Contact Stand and Cheer if you are doing a live meeting. Often, your Senator or Representative will not be available. Request a meeting with a member of their staff. Staffers make recommendations and advise their Members of Congress regarding particular issues. Meeting with a staff member is worthwhile.
3. Attend a Town Hall: Showing up matters! Members of Congress often host town hall meetings to hear from constituents during Congressional recess. Find out if your Members are hosting one, show up, and ask them where they stand on issues that are important to you. Ask them about the RPM Act.
4. Connect Online: Do you follow your Members of Congress on Facebook and Twitter? Are they posting about topics that are important to you? Comment with your opinion or tag them in your posts. Make sure to mention Stand and Cheer and your support for the RPM Act. Again, we can provide assistance with informational points.
